Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) is a form of psychotherapy, developed in the 1980’s, to help people take control of negative experiences they may have had in their lives. EMDR is used by the by the Veteran’s Administration to treat Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, and is utilized worldwide to treat victims of traumatic events such as Sexual Assault, Abuse, Natural Disaster and Terrorist Attacks.
However, EMDR is for everyone! EMDR is used to treat anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, and chronic pain. EMDR can even help prepare you for such stressful events like a job interview or public speaking.
EMDR is a very different than regular talk therapy as it doesn’t require the client to retell details or rehash uncomfortable events. It is very helpful for clients that are hesitant to talk but want to experience relief. EMDR works quickly, and clients can find relief from distress with much fewer sessions than traditional talk therapy.
